Library Celebrates the 75th National Book Week

image1For the past five years, UNEP Library had been celebrating this occasion with much gusto. Treated with various contests and seminar, it is an annual affair that everybody is looking forward to. What with the foreign and local speakers that regularly grace the occasion.
This year’s theme “Kaaya-ayang Magbasa sa Kapaligirang Kay Ganda” speaks of reading and environment. As such, it is expected that all activities slated for the week must be theme-based. Minus the seminar, this year’s celebration was ushered by a storytelling contest held last November 23, 2009 for the grade school pupils. Subject of the contest is the book “Ang Alamat ng Lamok by Ruben de Jesus wherein 9 contestants competed, of which 3 were declared winners namely: Beatrix Gail Peralta (1st place), Rujina-Dios Z. Alfelor (2nd place) and Danielle N. Filio (3rd place), respectively.
On-the-spot essay writing contest followed the next day (November 24, 2009) for the high school students. There were 12 contestants representing each level at 3 apiece who tried their luck in writing. The winning piece shall be published in the library newsletter. As for the tertiary level, theirs was a poster making contest held in the morning of the same day. Contestants came from different colleges namely: College of Arts and Sciences, Education, BusinessEducation and Engieering. Like in the past contests, the winning entries shall automatically become the property of the library and will form part of the display items.
To cap the celebration, the recipients for frequent library user award (faculty and student) were also determined. College of Liberal Arts and Social Work/General Education dominated the faculty category. However for student category, it was evenly distributed in three colleges --- College of Liberal Arts (1st Place), College of Business Education (2nd Place) and College of Engineering and Architecture (3rd Place), respectively.
All this were acknowledged during the awarding ceremony on (November 25, 2009) before the school officials
