The annual celebration of the UNEP Army ROTC Activation Day which now counts to its 64th year, ushers a new leadership that commands the college ROTC unit. After earning his General Staff Course (GSC) in the Reserved Command of the Philippine Army, COLONEL ALEX BITAGARA BOTOR was the 1st Bicolano, in general and the 1st Irigueño, in particular who was promoted as Deputy Brigade Commander by the Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and duly confirmed by the Senate Committee on Appointment chaired by Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian on August 16, 2026. Specifically, Col. Botor is within the jurisdiction of the 1702nd Ready Reserved Infantry Brigade of the 5th Regional Community Défense Group Reserved Command of the Philippine Army.
A Doctor of Education graduate of the UNEP School of Graduate Studies, he started as a substitute teacher in the Department of Education Schools Division Office of Iriga City. He rose from the ranks of the Teacher positions until he became Head Teacher III, Secondary Principal I and Education Program Supervisor I in Social Studies and eventually retired as EPS I in Values Education on December 31, 2023.
Besides being a Licensed Professional Teacher (LPT) and a Safety Officer II, Col. Botor has six (6) Licenses to Exercise Security Profession (LESP) issued by the Philippine National Police (PNP) SOSIA and FEO, namely as: Security Consultant, Security Manager, Security Officers, Training Instructor, Protection Agent, and Gun Safety Instructor and Range Safety Officer.
This young retiree who advocates Safe School and Environmental Awareness, keeps himself busy these days alongside his RESCOM PA position and his UNEP ROTC Commandant designation being the: Training Instructor of the Cadelac Security Training Center, Inc. in West Avenue, Quezon City; College Professor of UNEP, College Instructor of the Ceguera Technological College; Security Consultant for Private Individuals, and Security Auditor of Business Establishments.
The UNEP ROTC Army Activation is a new challenge for Col. Botor to reckon with. Given the educational foundation and the thought-provoking advocacies of the new UNEP ROTC PA Commandant, backed up by the support of the UNEP Administration and a dynamic ROTC staff, goals and objectives set forth would be accomplished, filled with optimism towards another year of a stronger reserved force from among the ROTC cadets and cadettes.
