Department History

A brief journey of our department's evolution since 1963

The College of Engineering & Architecture Department of the University has been in existence since 1963. Its operation started with the offering of the general engineering course, a two-year program consisting of a basic curriculum which integrates the basic courses. The program provided the students a well-balanced technological education in their first two years, enabling them to pursue any field in engineering and architecture programs.

Civil Engineering, a five-year program, was the first complete course offered by the department and its first graduates were produced in 1968. This degree was followed by Architecture. Since then hundreds of graduates were produced, the majority of whom successfully passed their respective licensure examinations and found employment in the region, the country, and abroad.

The number of course offerings has grown through the years, to meet the nation’s growing need for technological men in its process of development and expansion. During the school year 1982-1983, the complete course in Electrical Engineering was offered and produced its first successful graduates in 1985. Short-term courses such as Two-year General Radio Communication Operator, one-year Auto Diesel Mechanic, and one-year Auto Electronic Technician were also offered as alternatives for low-income families seeking immediate employment.

Indeed, because of this ever-flourishing department, The University of Northeastern Philippines could be rightfully called one of the primary contributors in helping the government realize its vision of industrialization, demonstrating how the department metamorphosed from its humble beginnings to being a premier contributor of nationally and globally competitive technical human resources.
